Choosing the right lock

The right lock depends on the door material, the way the door is used and what your insurer expects. We explain the practical difference between a basic latch, a keyed deadlock and a double-cylinder deadlock, including the fire-safety trade-offs of key-both-sides hardware in a home.

Repair before replace

A door that will not lock is often a door alignment problem rather than a broken lock. Where a strike plate adjustment, hinge shim or latch service will fix it, we do that instead of selling you new hardware.

Common questions

Do you supply the locks or should I buy them?

Either. We carry common quality hardware, and we are happy to install a compatible lock you have purchased, though the manufacturer's warranty on the product then stays with your supplier.

Are double-cylinder deadlocks a good idea?

They add security but require a key to exit, which can be dangerous in a fire. If you choose one we will discuss where the key should live and whether a single-cylinder alternative suits your household better.
