FAQ
Questions we get asked before booking
If your question is not here, call us and ask. We would rather answer it than have you guess.
- How much does a locksmith cost?
- It depends on the lock, the door and the time of day, so we do not publish a single flat figure. What we do commit to is telling you a realistic range on the phone and confirming a fixed total in writing before the work starts. That total includes callout, labour, parts and any after-hours loading.
- Do you charge a callout fee if I no longer need you?
- If you cancel before we are dispatched, there is no charge. If we have already travelled to site, a callout fee may apply and we will have told you that figure when you booked.
- Will you open a door for anyone who asks?
- No. We check photo ID and proof that you are entitled to access the property, such as a lease, rates notice, utility bill or written authority from the owner or managing agent. For commercial premises we need authority from the business owner or a listed director.
- Do you need to drill my lock?
- Rarely. Most residential and commercial locks can be opened without damage. If we believe drilling is unavoidable we explain why and quote the replacement lock before proceeding, so you can decide.
- Should I rekey or replace my locks?
- If the hardware is sound, rekeying is usually cheaper and faster and immediately invalidates every old key. If cylinders are worn or the lock is failing mechanically, replacement is better value over time. We quote both where both are viable.
- Do you work on cars?
- No. We are a building locksmith. For a vehicle lockout or car key you need an automotive locksmith or your roadside assistance provider, and we will tell you that immediately rather than attending.
- Do you handle electronic access control?
- We work with mechanical hardware and standalone electronic locks such as keypad and smart deadbolts. Networked, multi-site access control is better handled by a specialist integrator, and we will say so.
- Can you invoice a business or property manager?
- Yes. We issue itemised tax invoices, can quote against a purchase order, and can supply photographs of completed work for owners corporations and agencies.
- What warranty do I get?
- Workmanship is warranted for 12 months from the date of the invoice, and manufacturer warranties on parts we supply are passed to you in full. These sit alongside your Australian Consumer Law rights, which cannot be excluded.
- How do I know you are a legitimate business?
- We trade from 415 Riversdale Rd, Hawthorn East VIC 3123, answer on (03) 7033 0253, and will provide business, licence and insurance details on request before you book.
