Look for a real trading address
National-sounding websites with no address are often lead brokers who sell your job to whoever is nearest. Ask where the business physically trades from.
Get the price before the work
Under Australian Consumer Law you are entitled to clear pricing. Ask for the total, including callout, labour, parts and any after-hours loading, and get it in writing or by SMS.
Know your consumer guarantees
Services must be provided with due care and skill and be fit for purpose. Products must be of acceptable quality. These guarantees apply automatically and cannot be signed away.
Ask about identification checks
A locksmith who will open a door without checking that you are entitled to be there will do the same for someone else at your door.
Keep the invoice
An itemised invoice matters for insurance claims, rental reimbursement and any later warranty issue.
